If you have never done this then its a good idea to do it as soon as you can, The inside of the Throttle body (tb) has a fly wheel which, over time, gets carbonized and allows air to get through when closed, resulting in an in efficient engine.
This is an hour of a job and on a scale of one to 10, is a 3-4 in difficulty.
This is my carbonized TB
You will need a pair of pliers, an 8mm ring spanner, 8mm socker with short extention, and a T25 torx bit. foam oven cleaner and a stiff paint brush, cable tie/s
so this is your engine, your tb is to the right on the end of the inlet manifold, see pics
First job is to remove the air filter lit and pipe with runs from the tb to the filter lid, there are two X screws on the lid, unscrew these and remove the clip which is holding the pipe to the tb, by now it will probably be a cable tie,
remover this whole thing away from the car, you can leave your air filter where it is.
Dont be suprized if you see an oily mayo mix in either the tb aperture or the air filter pipe, this is natural, this is not a sign of HGF, it will more than likely be condensation mixing with oil,
so, now, remove the breather pipes that are coming of the tb, they may or may not be clipped on, you may find it easier to remove the sensor now, to do this you dont need to remove the plug, simply un screw the whole sensor from the tb and place the screws in a safe place. My pic shows the plug removed, this was for photo purposes only.
watch that you dont drop the pipes down in the bay
now to remove the four bolts holding the tb on, these are 8mm and one will need a spanner, the others can be done via socket, place these in a safe area so as not to lose them
now, to remove the accelerator assembly, two torx screws (T25)
The accelerator cable needs removing now, take a look how it attaches, maneuver the tb so you can see, the cable has a stopper at the end which threads round the plastic part, there what looks to be two channels for the cable, it is the inner channel, not the outer, take some pics if you need to or draw a diagram.
ok, lift the tb away from the car, spray the whole thing with the oven cleaner, all over, dont be afraid to use it.leave it for 3-4 mins, then brush it all in every where.
when you have done, rinse it all off and you will now see the difference
Now, looks a lot better, but not yet finished, I used a hand sand blaster to clean mine which was a lot faster, use a brillo pad, spray the carbonized area with wd40, this is a great cleaner, scrub till its cleaner lol, dont forget the edges of the fly wheel. you can use an old tooth brush if need be. Dont scrape the carbon away, take your time it will be worth it
if like me you have a blaster, then the results will be a lot better,
Refitting is reversal of removal,
