That was the Rover 55, the larger of the two new cars under BMW due out around 2002 with the Rover 35 being the smaller one.

That one was to replace the 45 and was actually slightly larger than the 75, which would have been replaced with a newer, larger model around 2005 if memory serves me well.

Yes it was due to go into production and yes, this and the 35 were built, however all pictures, design work and mock ups of these cars were taken by BMW after the sale and currently languish somewhere in Munich.

There is another picture of the 55 in the gallery that plays on the front page, however as the slideshow picks a random set of pictures out of over 130 images, you may have to refresh a few times before it appears in the selection.

Thanks for that, not sure I like it reminds me of the new jaguar look a bit. ;-)
